I am Fanny. I am the modern calligrapher behind Studio Calliphanie. I am bilingual and I provide calligraphy and engraving services in Bordeaux, Paris and all around France. I mostly work for brands and public relations events, and I offer custom calligraphy services for weddings, and other special occasions. I also teach the art of calligraphy so you can be on your way to create beautiful things, too.

FAQ — Hiring a live calligrapher for your event : everything you need to know

A variety of surfaces can be personalised depending on your event's needs. Popular options include paper, cards, envelopes, perfume, leather goods, cosmetic or spirit bottles, and other small gift items such as keychains, passport covers, luggage tags, leather notebooks, wine or cocktails, glasses, food....
Due to variations and irregularities between manufacturers, I strongly recommend providing at least one sample of your gift item before your event. This allows me to test which tools and supplies work best with your products.

The number of items I can personalise on a few factors, such as the complexity of the design, the number of guests, and the length of the text. In general, I can personalise between 15 and 30 items per hour. For larger events, having a brand ambassador or staff member alongside me to help manage requests frees up my time to personalise more items. If your event expects a very large number of guests, a second artist may be needed. I would be happy to work with you to create a plan suited to your event and guest count.

Calliphanie provides all the calligraphy tools needed for the personalisation process, including pens, ink, paint, engraving tools, hot foiling equipment, and any other required supplies.
Clients typically provide the surfaces if they are branded items, but we can work together on sourcing and delivery if needed. -
Pricing is tailored to each project and depends on several factors: event duration, location, the type of personalisation, and the number of artists required. As a general guide, live calligraphy services are priced on a half-day, full-day or evening basis. Get in touch with your event details and I will send you a personalised quote.

The earlier the better — I recommend getting in touch at least four to six weeks before your event to ensure availability and allow time for preparation and material testing. For holiday season events (November and December), booking from September onwards is strongly advised as my calendar fills up quickly. That said, I am used to last-minute requests and will always do my best to accommodate them if my schedule allows.

These are three distinct personalisation techniques, each suited to different surfaces and aesthetics.
Calligraphy uses a dip pen, brush pen or marker to create elegant handwritten lettering on paper, cards, packaging and more. It is the most versatile technique and works on virtually any flat surface.
Engraving uses a rotary tool to permanently etch lettering into hard surfaces such as glass, metal, ceramic, wood and certain plastics. The result is premium, tactile and long-lasting.
Hot foiling uses a heated stylus and metallic transfer film to emboss lettering onto leather, paper and certain plastics that cannot be engraved. The result is luxurious and reflective — particularly popular for leather goods such as notebooks, card holders and luggage tags.

Studio Calliphanie is based in Bordeaux and Paris and travels throughout France and abroad for personalisation events. I generally only need a table, a chair, and occasionally access to a power outlet. I bring all necessary tools and supplies, including pens, ink, and any other requested items. If your event has specific setup requirements, feel free to let me know and I will work with you to find the best arrangement for your event space.

Some large-scale events require several calligraphers working simultaneously to personalise all products and gifts without keeping guests waiting. Studio Calliphanie has a network of experienced calligraphers available to recommend.

I arrive approximately 30 minutes early to set up (which usually takes around 15 minutes) and, ideally, create one to three sample engravings or calligraphy pieces to give guests an idea of what to expect.
Once an item is completed, it will be ready for collection. Since every event's logistics are different, let's discuss your event details to determine the best flow for personalisation requests.
For large scale events, we can come up with a QR code for the guests to enter their requests. That way you also enrich your database with new profiles to follow-up with after your event.
